Distribution: Widespread throughout Northern Hemisphere

Edibility: Chrysodon is Greek for golden tooth and refers to the most distinctive feature of Hygrophorus chrysodon, the golden yellow granules or minute hairs on the cap (especially the edge), stipe, and gills. Otherwise, the fruitbodies are white, or sometimes very pale yellow, small to medium-sized and variable in stature from rather slender to fairly stocky.
